Size does matter.  Know which tent will fit your pickup.

Would you buy a pair of boots and not care about size?  Pickup trucks use to be simple.  Now they come in all shapes and sizes.  Before you buy a pickup truck tent, know the length of your bed.  Measure the bed with the tailgate up.  Also know many of the same truck models have different size bed.  So if you have a Ford F150 you would correctly assume you have a full size pickup truck.   BUT most full size trucks have either a 6 1/2 foot bed or an  8 foot bed.  (That's  78 inches and 96 inches).

Pickup truck sizes and models for truck tents that are made today.  Note some truck models have different size beds, so pay attention.  Measurements are bed length only (we are not measuring the tailgate).  

Full size, short bed:  usually 6 1/2 feet. Variance (77-82 inches).  Chevrolet C/K, Silverado, Dodge RAM 1500, 2500; Ford F150, F250, F250 Super Duty, F350 Super Duty, GMC Sierra, Toyota Tundra.

Full size long bed:  usually 8 feet long. Variance (96-98 inches).  Chevrolet C/K, Silverado, Dodge Dakota, Dakota SLT, Dakota Sport, Dodge RAM 1500, 2500, 3500 Dually, Ford F150, F250, F250 Super Duty, F350 Super Duty, F350 Dually, GMC Sierra, Toyota T-100 Toyota Tundra

Compact Short bed:  6 feet long. Variance (72-74 inches).  Chevrolet S-10, Ford Ranger XL, Ford Ranger XLT, GMC S-15, GMC Sonoma, Isuzu Hombre, Jeep Comanche, Mazda B 2000, B 2500, B 3000, B 4000, Mitsubishi Pickup, Nissan Frontier, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Tacoma.

Compact Long bed:  7 feet long. Variance (84-90 inches).  Chevrolet S-10, Ford Ranger XL, XLT, GMC S-15, GMC Sonoma, Isuzu Hombre, Jeep Comanche, Mazda B 2000, Mitsubishi Pick-up, Nissan Frontier, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Tacoma.

Step Side, Flare Side  78-82 inches.  Pay close attention here. Chevrolet Silverado.  Ford F 150 & F 250 1996 and older.   GMC Sierra 1500.

Crew Cab. with 5 foot bed. Variance (68-70 inches).    GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, Chevy Crew Cab, Ford Super Crew.

MidSize Toyota & Dodge: 6 1/2 feet long. Variance (78-79 inches).  Dodge Dakota Short Bed, SLT Short, Dakota Sport Short, Toyota T-100
